WATER SUPPLY
Shurugwi Town Council distributes water throughout all of its districts and locations. The water comes from two sources and these are Impali Dam and the Fern Creek water ponds.
IMPALI DAM
Situated about 12km out of Shurugwi, the dam is the largest water body in Shurugwi and serves water to more than 50% of the whole town. The water is drawn out of the dam by the use of electric pumps from out of the dam and is filtered of solid impurifications before the water cleaning process begins
The extracted water is then piped to Manzimudhaka water purification plant where the water is purified and prepared intensively for usage. The water is filtered through a sand mixture to remove impurities and other solid particles. The water then goes through several levels of purification. Chloride and Sulphate compounds are added into water to kill micro-scopic organisms or any other disease harbouring pathogens. Again, the water is filtered through each stage to remove foam and other particles that would have been caught in in the cleaning process. Finally, the water is distributed throughout the locations of Shurugwi proportionally.
FERN CREEK
The Fern Creek water source unlike Impali source, is a wetland type of area where there are quite big ponds. These ponds can source out water throughout the year and despite their size they contribute a notable portion of water to the town of Shurugwi.
The water is drained out of the ponds by the use of electric pumps and is put into sumps for an extensive filtering where solid particles and other impurities are removed from the water.
