TOURISM IN SHURUGWI

The town is situated in some of the best scenery in Zimbabwe close to areas of historical (Memorable Order of Tin Hats Shrine) and cultural interest rendering it an ideal area for tourist development. Such services are therefore required, restaurants, specialized shops, information centre, public parks etc.



Bonsa Ruins:

The largest stone with iron smelting sites monuments in Shurugwi. The ruins had been lying idle since time immemorial. The departments of Arts Culture and Heritage has sort assistance from Local business partners such as Zimasco, Tongogara Rural District Council, Shurugwi Town Council, Unki and Falcon Gold Mine to have the monuments reconstructed, fenced and protected from direct human interference. National Museum and Monuments has pledged to assist with making the monuments an established tourist centre of attraction and list it among some of the Province proclaimed Heritage Cite to promote Community Tourism.

 



Boterekwa:

The departments through the Local Arts, Culture and heritage Board has plans to market the scenic area through Construction of stop over points (gazebos) and have some artefacts and refreshments sold at these points while the passers-by have a tour of the pass. Chemhere Brothers Company has pledged to assist the ministry with the   stop over structures. The department has the plans to integrate the pass with the Danraven Falls to add more flavour. The department has plans to fence the area around Danraven Falls to protect it from direct human interference and pollution from the spiritualist and the churches such as Johane Masowe cults who have since from time to time left their used materials and sometimes live birds at these falls for religious purposes.  If well fenced, it will promote tourism.

 

 



The Impali Rock Art Site:

This is the largest rock art in Midland Province which is referred to as the Central region by the National Museums and Monuments. There has been marked improvements in preserving the art site from Unki Mine which has embarked on phase 1 of reconstruction of the heritage sites.

 

 

 



 

 

Peak Mountains

  • Peak View, Domboramwari, Senamwe, Guruguru Shamba and Chirugwi Mountain have been the major relief areas targeted by the department for community tourism.

 

 

 

 

 



 

Ndawo National Heritage Centre

  • This is Shurugwi `s major Culture centre situated near Chachacha (Donga) Growth point
